Poverty in Latina America is geographically distributed in a heterogeneous manner. Thus, there are areas in the region where poverty exceeds 60%  of the population, particularly in extensive areas of the northern South America and Central America. On the other hand, in the Southern Cone of Latin America, the opposite situation is observed, with poverty rates below 15% in the southern states of Brazil, in practically all departments of Uruguay, as well as in the central region of Chile. The estimates presented here are based on the application of Small Area Estimation techniques, wich combine census information, household survey data, and statistical models.
